What is Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder?
ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition affecting the brain’s executive functions, the skills that help you plan, focus, remember instructions, and manage multiple tasks. While often diagnosed in childhood, ADHD is a lifelong condition that affects millions of adults who may have been undiagnosed for years.
ADHD is not
- A discipline problem or laziness
- A result of poor parenting
- Something you can just “try harder” to overcome
- A character flaw or lack of willpower
ADHD is
- A legitimate medical condition with neurological basis
- Highly treatable with proper care
- Common affecting 8-10% of children and 4-5% of adults
- Often genetic and runs in families
The good news: With proper diagnosis and treatment, people with ADHD can succeed in all areas of life.

Comprehensive Care for All ADHD Presentations
Predominantly Inattentive Type (ADHD-PI)
:
Formerly called "ADD." Primary difficulties with attention, focus, and organization without significant hyperactivity. Often diagnosed later, especially in girls and women, because symptoms are less disruptive.
Predominantly Hyperactive-Impulsive Type (ADHD-PH):
Primary difficulties with hyperactivity and impulse control. Less common in adults, as hyperactivity often decreases with age while inattention persists.
Combined Type (ADHD-C)
:
Both inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive symptoms present. The most common presentation, affecting about 60% of people with ADHD.
Adult ADHD
:
Many adults were never diagnosed as children. Adult ADHD presents differently, often with less visible hyperactivity but significant life impact from inattention, disorganization, and impulsivity.
